2022 Season Events at Mill Creek Resort
What does community mean at Mill Creek Resort?
Little did we know how much our lives would change or how full they would become when we made the leap to purchase Mill Creek Resort in 2017. Having both grown up in bigger cities, living in Mill Creek is quite the change of pace and about as far away from city life as you can possibly get. But that’s precisely what we were craving.
Mill Creek Resort is such a special place for so many reasons. Some families have been coming up here since the 40s, and generations of kids have spent the summer playing in the creek and drinking milkshakes on the porch. While the days are sunny and the air is filled with birdsongs and chipmunk chatter, the nights are pin-drop quiet and on moonless nights, pitch dark save the glittering of stars and far-away galaxies overhead.
For those just discovering Mill Creek, they can’t believe a place like this still exists. A place that, just as it always has, draws people together and fosters connections that just don’t, and can’t, happen anywhere else, especially in the busy city.
And those connections that happen between fellow visitors, cabin-owners, and the staff that pass through each season— that’s the coal that makes this train roll. It’s what we work so hard for. Being part of this community and showing up for the people in it are why we’re here. There have been innumerable times during our 5+ years here that we’ve been blown away by the support and love from our community members— from Tehama County, Plumas County, and beyond. Building a community centered around sustainability, wellness, and joy is our top priority. And we need those three things now more than ever before.
By our third year here, our community has grown to feel more like a large extended family rather than just casual acquaintances of neighbors and co-workers. At the beginning of 2020, we were really finding our groove, getting ready to bring our newest member of the family into the world, and looking forward to continuing to build our community and our sense of purpose with the resort. Well, we all know what happened next. And in the last few years, it has seemed like one long uphill battle. Although, in retrospect, this time was extremely valuable for letting our dreams simmer and take shape. It also reinforced our beliefs that bringing people together is the most important thing we can do right now.
While no one can say for sure if we’re out of the woods yet, we’re gonna get while the gettin’s good. Along with almost everybody else on the planet, we literally cannot wait any longer to get the gang back together again! We have almost two years of celebrations, weddings, reunions, concerts, and events to catch up on! And if you’re like us, you’re trying to cram as much fun and get-togethers as you can into every available date.
From the very beginning, we’ve envisioned utilizing Mill Creek Resort as a hub for community events and gatherings in a fresh new way. Many thanks go to Terry and Georgene for building a loyal and supportive following of customers and friends, and we strive to honor some of their longstanding traditions.
So what do we have on the calendar for the
2022 season?
MAY:
Unfortunately, we had to cancel our annual Mamas and Mimosas Mother’s Day Brunch this year because of later-than-normal staff arrival dates. But that doesn’t mean that May is lacking things to do.
20th: The restaurant is opening!
We’ll be throwing open the doors and rolling out our new menu! As always, we’re sourcing as many local and organic ingredients as possible and even beginning to make our own ice cream in-house with raw dairy from Duivenvoorden Farms in Cottonwood. Our new chef Josh brings a wealth of experience in the kitchen and has created some really fun and delicious new dishes and desserts!
21st: The first wedding of the season is happening in the meadow!
The groom’s grandfather was one of the first people in Mill Creek to build a cabin, and the whole family has visited every summer for almost 70 years now! So when the bride suggested getting married here, it was a no-brainer decision. The family is thrilled to share such a special day in a place they know and love so dearly. Congratulations, John and Michelle! Maybe next year there might even be a fourth-generation Mill Creeker 😉 And just a reminder that the restaurant will be closed both Saturday and Sunday for the wedding party.
28th: Our first Movie Night in the Meadow!
Always a hit with the kids, our movie nights are free and begin at dusk. Don’t worry if you can’t make it to this month’s movie— we’ve got one every month for the rest of Summer! Grab a chair and blanket, your favorite snack or ice cream treat from the camp store, and get a front-row seat for this family-friendly movie in the meadow!
28th/29th: Sound bath with Kenny
We’re holding four very special sound baths with Kenny of Telluric Sound from Chico. One each morning and evening in the meadow, these communal sound baths are meant to align our frequencies so we can tune into a higher vibration for ultimately happier and healthier minds and bodies. These healing experiences can improve mood and wellbeing, reduce stress and tension, and are rejuvenating and uplifting. Together we will set intentions and meditate while Kenny uses a variety of singing bowls and instruments to create music magic.
31st: Sound bath with Monette
Didn’t make it to Telluric Sound’s baths? We’re inviting Monette back to Mill Creek Resort for a sound healing session on Tuesday morning. Monette with Beauty for Ashes Wellness held a sound bath for a small group of us in 2020 and inspired us to offer the experience to the public. Because of Mill Creek’s clean mountain air and low energy and noise pollution, it’s the perfect place for this incredibly powerful form of healing. In addition to sound healing, both remotely and from her studio in Chico, Monette offers massage, cupping, reiki, and birth and postpartum support for new mothers.
JUNE:
10th: Our second wedding of the season!
Emily and Rob chose Mill Creek as their venue to represent all the outdoor adventures they’ve shared together so far. We’re so excited to be a part of their love story and to share this special day with them! And just a reminder that the restaurant will be closed both Friday and Saturday for the wedding party.
18th/19th: Our 4th annual Father’s Day Arts and Crafts Festival.
Our favorite event of the year kicks off Saturday morning at 9:00 and goes until 4:00 both days. Entrance to the event is free, and in addition to fine arts and crafts presented by almost a dozen local artists, we’ve got a ton of activities happening all weekend long. Vendors featuring jewelry, custom knives, woodworking, charcuterie boards, handmade dolls, ceramics, artwork, and leather goods— there’s sure to be something for everyone.
Raffle
Support your local artisan! For each purchase from one of the vendors, receive a signature from the artist on your raffle ticket, which can be picked up from any of the booths or at the lodge. Collect at least five signatures, and turn your ticket in before 4:00 each day. We’ll be raffling off MCR merchandise, gift cards, and maybe even a few surprises! The lucky winners don’t need to be present to win, and we’ll be mailing out the prizes the following week.
Horseshoe Tournament
Participate in some fun competition each day at 11:00 AM for our first horseshoe tournament at MCR! Winning teams will receive prize packages of MCR merchandise and gift cards to the restaurant. Please contact us to sign up!
BBQ
To show our appreciation to all those hard-working, caring fathers out there, we’re hosting a BBQ featuring pulled pork from Red Gate Ranch with all the fixin’s. Beer and wine will also be available for purchase.
Live Music
Enjoy the sweet tunes from Rickety Bridge from Westwood and Dellow and The Modern Mystics from Grass Valley. Both acts will take the stage at 2:00 each day.
Kid’s Activities
Let the kiddos find their wild! In addition to the fun activities planned, they’ll have a blast exploring the 12 acres of meadows, forest, and creeks (with proper supervision of course)! To keep them entertained, we’ve got kiddy pools and water guns, yard games like giant Jenga, cornhole, bocce ball, bubbles, crafts, and even a super fun scavenger hunt!
20th/21st: Artist Workshops with Cindy Fowler in the Meadow.
Get your dose of nature, learn a new craft, and make some new friends! And sign up for one or all four of these workshops with Cindy to receive 10% off your stay! Cindy is a talented and accomplished artist from Ashland, Oregon, who works with a variety of mediums, mostly weaving fibers and natural materials. All the materials are provided for these beginner-friendly workshops, and you’ll be taking home a finished, one-of-a-kind, made-by-you piece of artwork. A special catered lunch will be available for purchase each day. Seating is limited, so please contact us to sign up.
